"... too ... to ... " 的用法：（ 第四冊）

標題句：The boy is too young to go to school.
　　　　The boy is so young that he can't go to school.

結　構：...too...to... 和 ...so...that...句型

"too ... to ..." 對一個初學者來說，是個很容易犯錯的句型，因為它的對應中文是「太‧‧‧以致於不能夠‧‧‧」，對照英文，根本沒有 not 等否定字，而這也就是經常錯誤原因所在。先看底下的例子：

1. The child is too young to go to school.
　這個小孩年紀太小了，以致於還無法上學。

2. It is too good to be true.
　這件事太好了，好像不是真的。 （好到好像不是真的。）

3. The weather is too hot to work.
　天氣太熱了，所以無法工作。

想想看一：歸納上述三句，可否說出在 too 後面所接綠色的字是什麼詞？[ 核對答案 ]

在綠色的字後面也可以再加「人」，和「虛構主詞 it」的用法相同，也用 for：

4. The work is too hard for the boy to do.
　這件工作對這個男孩來說太難了，所以根本沒辦法做。

5. The bicycle is too small for me to ride.
　這部腳踏車對我來說太小了，所以沒辦法騎。

若按上面的例句看來，其實不會很難，只要記住不要再加上 not 即可。
